Intersolar Europe 2025: How Raycap Protects PV Systems, EV Charging Stations, Battery Energy Storage, and More

Garching, 22.04.2025 – Ensuring a secure energy transition: Raycap, an international manufacturer of electronic components for surge protection, connectivity, and monitoring, will showcase its surge protection solutions for PV systems, battery storage, and EV charging infrastructure at Intersolar 2025 in Hall B4, Booth 580. As a surge protection specialist, Raycap has designed its new products according to the latest IEC 61643-41 surge protection standard.

To protect renewable energy and e-mobility infrastructures, Raycap will present a comprehensive portfolio of SPD solutions and more at Intersolar Europe 2025. Highlights include the compact solutions for the 60 mm busbar, DC solutions for EV charging and Battery Energy Storage (BESS), and other highly effective surge protection for industrial, commercial, and residential buildings.

EV Charging Stations, Building Infrastructure, and Wallboxes

Raycap will roll out a new surge protection solution specifically designed for DC EV charging applications. The ProTec T2 DCGU DIN rail SPD meets the requirements of IEC 61851-23, the standard for DC EV charging, and complies with IEC 61643-41, which is currently in Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) status and is expected to be released in the coming months. The new IEC 61851-23 standard will ensure that SPDs for DC applications are better tailored to the specific requirements of DC charging stations, battery storage, and other DC applications, addressing factors like higher system voltages and specialized circuitry. At The smarter E Europe 2025, Raycap experts will be available to demonstrate how this standard influences the development of new DC product families specifically designed for DC applications.

Also showcased at The smarter E Europe 2025 are EV charging products that cover the full spectrum of e-mobility—from large public charging stations to building infrastructure protection on the AC side. For example, the ProBloc T2C EV is designed to protect smaller private or public AC charging stations and wallboxes that may not always be adequately protected via the building connection. The ProBloc T2 EV is a compact, easy-to-install Type 2+3 surge protection device that fits even in small charging stations, thanks to its slim 35-mm width.

Surge Protection for 60-mm Busbar Systems

For reliable surge protection in power distribution systems, such as PV power plants, Raycap presents the ProTec 60 series—a particularly compact plug-and-play AC power surge protection solution that simply snaps onto the 60-mm busbar, with only the PE or N conductor requiring connection.

Thanks to its compact design, the Type 1+2 and Type 2 SPD components require just 2 TE width on the busbar, eliminating the need for additional space in the control cabinet, such as extra mounting rails or adapters. The ProTec 60 Series significantly reduces installation time, and the components can be rotated 180 degrees on the busbar, shortening connection paths to equipotential bonding or N/PE connections, improving protection levels, and enhancing the overall electrical safety of the system.

Particularly for high-current applications, the Type 2 SPD with an integrated pre-fuse, ProTec 60 T2F, excels by eliminating the need for an additional large NH fuse. This not only saves installation space but also reduces installation effort and costs. Visual status monitoring of the surge protection and fuse is also possible via a remote signaling contact.

PV Boxes for DC-Side Inverter Protection

The compact design of the ProTec PV boxes variants addresses the challenge of limited space on rooftops. Available in one-, two-, and three-string configurations, the ProTec PV boxes protect inverters that lack DC-side surge protection. Equipped with push-in terminals and MC4 connectors or rubber grommets, they enable tool-free installation. All PV boxes are available as Type I+II or Type II variants and are suitable for indoor and outdoor applications.

SPDs that can be directly mounted on PCBs.

Limited installation space is no reason to compromise on the protection of PV systems. That’s why Raycap offers easy-to-integrate solutions for PCB (printed circuit board) installation, combining multiple protection functions in a compact design. These can be installed quickly and easily—without soldering—even as a retrofit in the field. Available as removable or non-removable plug-in versions, the PCB solutions cater to various customer-specific applications. They come as both Type 1 and Type 2 surge arresters, supporting voltages of 1,100 V and 1,500 V with an ITotal rating of up to 12.5 kA at a 10/350 µs impulse form. These PCB-mountable SPDs are at the heart of Raycap’s ready-to-connect ProTec PV boxes, among other things.
